Do you have a broken Apple product that you want to fix yourself? Apple repairs can be expensive. But, depending on the issue with the device, customers will now be able to fix it themselves using Apple’s Self Service Repair, which finally became available this week.
Rather than visiting a technician in-store, Apple’s new self-repair service will mean that Apple parts, tools, and repair guides will be available to purchase for US consumers.
There may be some limits to the types of repairs customers can do at home. However, the new online store now has over 200 individual parts and tools on sale.
These parts are suitable for repairs on iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone SE (3rd generation) lineups. The store doesn’t currently have parts available for Mac devices, but the company says that some options will be available to purchase for these later in the year.
The new service will make it easier for Apple customers to carry out simple repairs at home, rather than visiting an Apple store or another phone repair technician.
Apple says it plans to keep the service as simple as possible. Customers wanting to repair their own device should follow these steps to perform a self-service repair:
The company states on its website, “Every genuine Apple part is designed and engineered for each product, and goes through extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety, and reliability. The parts are the same ones — at the same price — as those available to Apple’s network of authorized repair providers.” The company added that as thanks for returning a replaced part for recycling, customers will receive a credit “for certain repairs.”
