Arizona Man Arrested with 120 Guns After DNC Office Attacks

Jeffrey Michael Kelly, a 60-year-old man from Arizona, has been arrested in connection with multiple shootings targeting a Democratic National Committee (DNC) office in Tempe. This shocking case has drawn attention not only for the alleged criminal acts but also for the extensive cache of weapons discovered in Kelly’s possession. Authorities found over 120 firearms and more than 250,000 rounds of ammunition in his home, leading investigators to suspect he was preparing for a mass casualty event.

The investigation into Kelly began after he allegedly fired BB pellets and then live ammunition at the glass front door and windows of the DNC office on three separate occasions—September 16, September 23, and October 6. Thankfully, no one was present in the office during these incidents, preventing any injuries. However, the brazen nature of these attacks raised immediate concerns about the safety of political spaces and the potential for escalating violence in an already charged political environment.

During his initial court appearance, Maricopa County prosecutor Neha Bhatia revealed the shocking details of the evidence collected after Kelly’s arrest. Federal agents discovered a staggering array of weapons, including rifles, handguns, silencers, scopes, and body armor. A machine gun was also found in the vehicle he was driving at the time of his arrest. The sheer size of this arsenal has led authorities to conclude that Kelly may have been planning a significant act of violence.

Further complicating the case, authorities reported that Kelly had hung several politically charged signs lined with razor blades in the affluent suburb of Ahwatukee. These signs criticized Democratic politicians and specifically targeted Vice President Kamala Harris. This act of intimidation further highlights the dangerous intersection of political rhetoric and violent behavior in the current climate.

Kelly is facing serious charges, including three felony counts of acts of terrorism, in addition to several related to the shootings. He is currently being held on a $500,000 cash bond, which includes stipulations for house arrest and the requirement of an ankle monitor if he is able to post bail. His attorney, Jason Squires, has stated that Kelly is a retired aerospace engineer with no criminal history and insists that he does not pose a flight risk.

The targeted DNC office in Tempe is one of 18 locations established to support Vice President Harris’s campaign efforts in Arizona, a crucial battleground state in the upcoming election. Due to the shootings, the office has been temporarily shut down as police continue their investigation and assess the broader implications of such violence against political organizations.

Political violence has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, and this incident raises serious concerns about the safety of political figures and the integrity of democratic processes. As the country prepares for another election cycle, authorities are on high alert to ensure that campaign spaces remain secure and that those who would resort to violence are held accountable for their actions. The implications of this case will likely resonate throughout the political landscape, highlighting the urgent need for measures to protect public officials and campaign activities from violence and intimidation.
