Irish mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor appeared in a Dublin court to deny allegations of sexual assault dating back to December 2018. The civil case, brought against McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, accuses the former UFC champion of assaulting plaintiff Nikita Hand.
During his testimony, McGregor firmly rejected the claims, describing the allegations as “lies.” He stated that his encounter with Hand was “fully consensual” and denied any coercion or physical harm. “Your client is full of lies. Everything is a lie,” McGregor asserted while responding to Hand’s lawyer, John Gordon, during cross-examination.
Hand alleges that McGregor forced her into a bedroom during a party in a Dublin hotel penthouse and sexually assaulted her. She also claimed that Lawrence assaulted her as well. McGregor refuted these accusations and specifically denied causing bruises or marks on her body, as suggested by Hand’s legal team.
According to Gordon, Hand had visible injuries, including a mark allegedly caused by McGregor pressing down on her wristwatch. These injuries were reportedly documented by medical staff at a sexual assault treatment unit the day after the alleged incident.
The court heard that Hand, accompanied by a friend, had connected with McGregor after a work Christmas party. They were transported to a hotel penthouse where drugs and alcohol were reportedly consumed. Hand claims the assault occurred in one of the bedrooms at the party.
McGregor’s defense maintains that the interaction was consensual and that no force or harm was involved. As he took the stand for the first time on the trial’s sixth day, he sought to discredit Hand’s account, accusing her of fabricating the details.
The trial continues with a jury of eight women and four men, with proceedings expected to last for two weeks. The case has garnered significant attention, given McGregor’s high-profile status as a global sports figure.
While the trial unfolds, McGregor’s legal team insists on his innocence, calling into question the credibility of the allegations. Meanwhile, Hand’s representatives emphasize the severity of the injuries and the emotional toll on their client.
This case adds to McGregor’s history of legal and public controversies, casting a spotlight on the intersection of fame, responsibility, and accountability. The court’s decision will ultimately hinge on the evidence presented and the jury’s interpretation of events.
As the trial progresses, it continues to raise broader conversations about consent and accountability, particularly involving high-profile individuals.
