The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, described the events as a “devastating blow” to the community, mourning the victims with deep sorrow. Nigeria President Bola Tinubu canceled his planned appearance at a Lagos boat regatta to honor those who died in these tragedies. In a statement, he urged authorities to implement strict crowd control measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. “In a season of joy and celebration, we grieve with fellow citizens mourning the painful losses of their loved ones,” Tinubu stated.
